Group rates going up
September 04, 2010
While many parents are excited that their college-aged children will be able to return to their group policy after September 22, their excitement may be short lived when they see their new payroll deductions in 2011. Currently, insurance carriers are scrambling to become compliant with the new rules before they take effect later this month. Employees may be surprised during their next open enrollment period as carriers pass on the cost of these additional benefit requirements to employers. Most employees can expect an increase in their overall contribution costs for health insurance and a narrowing of the benefit spectrum as employers struggle to find a way to cover the additional costs.
Coming Soon: Preventive Care
September 03, 2010
After September 23, new policies must cover evidence-based preventive services, including screenings and vaccinations, at no cost to you. The Affordable Care Act will help make wellness and prevention services affordable and accessible to you by requiring health plans to cover preventive services and by eliminating cost-sharing. According to a new regulation released by the Department of Health and Human Services, the Department of Treasury and the Department of Labor, if you or your family enroll in a new health plan on or after September 23, 2010, then that plan will be required to cover recommended preventive services without charging you a copay, co-insurance or deductible.

Pre-existing condition coverage
September 01, 2010
Looking for affordable health insurance coverage is a daunting task, but trying to find private coverage when you have a serious pre-existing condition is even more difficult. Receiving a rejection letter from a health insurance carrier after wading through the lengthy application process can leave you feeling helpless and wondering how you will be able to pay your medical expenses in the future. If you are an Indiana resident and have been rejected for health insurance coverage, all is not lost. Indiana offers several coverage options that guarantee coverage to Indiana residents.
Many people think that they cannot apply for guaranteed health coverage unless they are approved for Medicaid. That is not the case. While Medicaid eligible residents are entitled to guaranteed coverage and assistance with premiums, two additional options exist for applicants who have been declined because of pre-existing health conditions. These two options are NOT based on income:
Option 1 - Indiana Comprehensive Health Insurance: Employees losing group coverage are among those eligible to apply without any waiting period.
Option 2 - Pre-existing Insurance Plan (Federally Mandated July 2010): You won’t be eligible until you have been uninsured for at least the last six months.
To view all your options and plans available in other states go to http://www.healthcare.gov.
John David Insurance does not have a relationship with any of the these government sponsored plans. We simply provide these links to as a courtesy to those clients who have been rejected for health insurance coverage due to a pre-existing condition. Applicants are responsible for submitting their own application directly to the appropriate State agency.
